Dont be intimidated about having to interview the principal. You can interview an assistant principal, department or team leaders, or counselors. Anyone who sees an area where something can be improved...instructionally, discipline, addressing student needs in other ways, improving campus culture....any area where you data may lead. Your test scores should arriving soon and this will be the perfect time to identify current campus instructional needs.
This part of the assignment does not have be extensive...just demonstrate that you have engaged in some fact finding, information gathering effort.
The AEIS report from your campus over several years can reveal a number of things....specific subject matter where problems exist, specific populations that struggle more than others, high levels of teacher turnover, dramatic changes in demographics (AEIS report comparisons over time that show changes in ethnic composition of a campus for example). All of these would indicate a problem area.
Remember, the purpose of this course is for you to learn to:
1. Go to reliable sources to identify a problem on a campus.
2. Use data obtained to develop a stategy for solving the problem or improving a process.
3. Identify sources that can be used to address the problem.
4. Create a comprehensive solution including a budget that can be used for either a campus budget or a budget for a grant proposal.
Remember that all assignments will be due on April 26 as a single document. Be sure to maintain separate headings as you build the one document. I will provide instructions on how to submit when the time is right.
